We are those who battle for peace -and it is a battle. Cross-legged, eyes closed, we may seem like naturals, but peace does not come easily. He has said to us, “Seek peace and pursue it.” I think He says it this way because He knows this well -that peace does not stay still. It shifts and with each situation and every individual. At times it hides itself and only the bold and diligent seek it out.
We carry swords, but not to destroy. We bear them as love’s burden to enjoy the release of laying them at the feet of our enemies. Because those with no legitimate reason for vengeance cannot be called peacemakers. Rather, it is they who would be justified in their warring who are the peacemakers, for they have chosen to endure brutality in order to embrace humanity. A wounded man who lays down a sword knows this well.
